the take
Tyler Ballgame’s debut album is lush, stylish, and scratches a certain itch that always hits the spot for me. The 70s folk singer-songwriter vibe would carry a weaker album to the finish line but with Tyler’s strong songwriting chops (both lyrically and musically), it acts as a support instead of a crutch. I felt what I presume to be a lot of Beatles influence, especially from McCartney in the melodies and chords and Harrison in the production (referring more to their solo work). I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for what Tyler releases next because I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this!
