Don Shirley
the take
I am sure I am not the first one here to listen to this album after watching Green Book. That being said I was surprised to find this album an improvisation. Airy and whimsical yet foggy and introspective. I am always fascinated by what seems to be someone walking a tightrope , no previous idea of what will happen only a vague wire to guide the whole procession. It takes a hell of a musician to do such a feat. Sonically this album leaves much to be desired I would be interested to see how they recorded this record as it crackles and breaks up which leads me to believe it’s a recording of a recording if that makes sense. Overall I would be interested to see what else don shirley is capable of when not under the pressure and confines of improvisation
