the take
Basically Our Lady Peace smoothing out their alt-rock edges in favour of a more radio-friendly sound. The concept isn’t as abstract or spiritually searching as their earlier work; instead, it leans into grounded themes of relationships, disillusionment, and emotional fatigue. Lyrically, Raine Maida trades in some of his cryptic, surreal tendencies for more direct and digestible writing. Sonically the record is tight and polished. The guitars are cleaner, the hooks are sharper, and the production is undeniably slick. There’s a professionalism here that works in the album’s favour, though it occasionally feels a bit too safe compared to their earlier, more textured work. Fav Track Innocent
