JAGUAR II : Deluxe

Victoria Monét

the take

I used to be tapped in to Victoria Monét and her music back in around 2019, 2020. Me slacking wasn't due to her making bad music, but rather me just having a shifting music taste in the years since. But holy shit, this album is just so magnificent. First, the original album. Let me just say this right now that "Alright" is the best song on this portion. It's probably not good to have the rest of these tracks held to that standard, but truth be told, the other songs are great. "Cadillac (A Pimp's Anthem)" and "On My Mama" may not be high in comparison to other songs on here, but that just shows that the others are just damn good. The production on here is more on the sensual confident side, sonically speaking, and Victoria's beautiful smooth vocals perfectly go hand-in-hand with said production, as well as the songwriting (though it can be simplistic at times for me). Nothing but good vibes throughout. The extra songs on the deluxe is more of the same, but multiplied by three and is more consistent. These should've been an album on its own, even though they fit the theme of the original album. If anything, Victoria Monét further expanded on her sound on these deluxe tracks to showcase how multidimensional she is. I regret being asleep on Ms. Victoria Monét, but best believe I've reawakened to her music.
