the take
*in an alternate dimension where I currently have kids* Kid: "I want to listen to some Rod Wave!" Me: "What you mean? We have Rod Wave music playing right now!" *playing this album by an artist that gives off Rod Wave vibes* I forgot all about this dude Morray. I remember seeing his name on J. Cole's "The Off Season" some years ago. I thought he was decent, but that's just a personal preference. Many others enjoyed his contributions on there and I anticipated him to blow up from there. Sadly, it didn't happen due to him being involved with label issues. "Long Story Short" is the first project after having said issues resolved. As a human, I'm glad that he got his old situation resolved to where he's able to feed his fans with new music again. But just because I'm sympathetic toward his label issues, that doesn't mean I have to believe this mixtape, his first since said issues, is good. It's actually pretty terrible, in my opinion. A part of me thought it'd be at least average, based on how "Breathe Underwater" showed just enough potential for "Long Story Short" to be tolerable at the very least. But nope, this just goes on a freefall from that point onward. This is one boring album Morray has released. Those same tired trap drums repeatedly with rap-singing about the same things (with little to no creative ways to get his thoughts across) makes this an uninspiring listen, as ironic as that may be. Somehow this sounds worse than Rod Wave's overall bland music, even while being in the same lane as Rod Wave. What a way to get my hopes up, only for them to come crashing down and never to recover. This was a waste of time that I'll never get back.
