the take
Nardo Wick disappointed me with "WICK". And in all honesty, a part of me initially figured that his appetizer EP "Hold Off" would be just as bad, if not worse, than the album. Not only I couldn't have been more wrong, but this project isn't all too terrible?! Who would've thought? Okay, sure. It's still average and your basic trap project you'd expect from bro. However, the production on here suits Nardo Wick better than on his album, allowing him to be able to try harder on his songs. Aside from "Move", the EP is actually tolerable to where half of it contains probably his best material between his two projects in 2025. While Kodak Black is rehashing his old 2016 XXL freestyle bar about wack beats and all that is just uninteresting on the obviously-titles "I Don't Fuck with This Beat", the track is still a lowkey banger, along with "Bobble Head" and "Sorry for Dem" being enjoyable as well. Had Nardo Wick included any of the good songs from here on "WICK" (and trimmed the latter project down to about half), it may have been up there for best trap album of 2025. Even still, I'll take what I can get. In this case, it's an acceptable project, in which "Hold Off" certainly qualifies for.
