The Real Folk Blues

John Lee Hooker

the take

Bar blues, plain and simple, and it’s great. His voice has that smoky bar room sound and its slick. I Put My Trust and I’m in the Mood are fantastic songs, but this record suffers from a “same-y” sound compared to its contemporaries. It’s not a very imaginative blues record. It’s good to listen to in the background, but nothing incredibly special. One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer is a great blues song. I being in a blues band would pick probably only that one or Put My Trust as a performer. It’s great bar blues, like I said, but nothing incredibly special. Then again, The Waterfront was a beautiful song. It was more folk than blues, but still a sweet and refreshing experience on this record. Fav Track The Waterfront
