the take
Yoshimi finds the Lips balancing absurdity with genuine emotional weight. The concept never overwhelms the music, instead giving it a soft, thematic cohesion. Wayne writes in childlike fragments but beneath that is a constant awareness of death and fragility. Lines drift in like passing thoughts, making the emotional core feel universal rather than literal. The band trades their earlier noise for warm, synthetic textures: buzzing electronics, soft drums, and glowing melodies. The arrangements are immersive but restrained, allowing songs like Fight Test and Do You Realize?? to land with real poignancy. It’s not quite a masterpiece but at its best, it’s deeply moving, a gentle reminder of how strange and fleeting life is. Fav Track Do You Realize??
