Drank Babies 4Life (Deluxe)

Dc2trill

the take

Before listening to this project, the only times I've ever heard DC2Trill rapping is either on the Concrete Boys album from last year or his features on a Famous Dex mixtape from years ago. On both occasions, DC2Trill was lyrically decent, but nothing to write home about. But he did always have a smooth flow to rapping, though. Fast forward to today with his latest offering, "Drank Babies 4Life". Now, I'd be lying to you if I said I like listening to codeine/lean rap. The reason why I can't get into this type of music all too much is mostly because I'm not one to relate to it (and I'm not really wanting to relate to it). That said, this project is just okay. It's not the greatest thing in the world, but I've heard worse. DC2Trill showed just how much of a vibe his flow can be on the Detroit rap-esque production on here, as his delivery and the beats go hand in hand. That doesn't mean the results are always good, though, as tracks like "IKYLM" and "Richest Drank Baby" are the worst songs on the album because they lose my interest really quickly. That's why the majority of "Drank Babies 4Life" suffers for me: the tracks start off strong, but then the probability of me losing interest increases as the song goes on. Plus, it doesn't help how the majority of songs have a little beat switch outro for almost every song. There are some bangers on here, like "Mossy Oak" (mostly due to the sampling of Aaliyah's "At Your Best" remix) and "Maybach Seats Go Way Back" show DC2Trill at his peak. While DB4L isn't as good as I'd like for it to be, I'd admit it's still a decent introduction to get into his music, though.
