the take
Neon Bible is a darker, more austere follow-up that trades the communal warmth of Funeral for something more confrontational. The lyrics are steeped in anxiety. Win writes with a blunt, sermon-like intensity here, less poetic than before but more direct in its unease. Musically, the band expands outward. The use of pipe organ, military drums, and dense arrangements creates a looming, cathedral-like sound (massive, but controlled). Tracks like Intervention feel almost liturgical, while Keep the Car Running injects a nervous, propulsive energy. The album plays like a critique of modern faith, both spiritual and cultural. It questions what people choose to believe in a world dominated by noise, spectacle, and fear. It’s not as immediate or emotionally rich as Funeral, but its ambition and atmosphere are undeniable, making it a compelling, if more distant, evolution. Fav Track (Antichrist Television Blues)
