the take
I somehow managed to stumble across this via my friend/crush's Spotify playlist that had one song from this album on it (the title track "Let Me Ride"), and because I enjoyed the short snippet I've heard, it made me curious enough to see what the entire album is about. "Let Me Ride" by Windy City is truly an underrated R&B/soul gem. The album is filled with nothing but incredible instrument arrangements, great songwriting, and talented vocalists that all help give this album a life of its own. It's so incredible to where the album's vibe alternates between polished and rough, which makes this a fun musical rollercoaster of sorts because either side adds to the uniqueness of it all. Aside from the title track, "Fool or Your Man" and "Feeling Like I Don't Belong" should also be mentioned as other amazing songs on here. It's crazy how both this album and the group itself were overlooked at the time. It's a shame, really, considering "Let Me Ride" is now considered borderline-timeless in soul music and needs to be mentioned more, now that I think about it.
