innocence

Kenzie Cait

the take

The only reason I came across artist Kenzie Cait is because of an ad promoting her single "don't break my...", which I thought was an interesting song, based off the snippet alone. Before I decided to listen to that song, I decided to check out her most recent body of work, which is this EP right here. "innocence" is a pretty solid project by her. I mean, it's not the best pop project I've heard in a while, but it's clearly not terrible by any means. The songwriting in each track is good enough by pop standards, and Kenzie's voice works for the lyrics, but the production wasn't anything stellar, in my opinion. I feel like if the latter was more unique, this could've been a bit worthy of listening to more often. Despite kind of having my expectations not met based off my listening to the "don't break my..." snippet, I enjoyed this EP more than I thought I would to where I'm curious in checking out the rest of her discography.
