the take
I may have seen Pouya live twice in my life (2019 opening up for Ski Mask the Slump God and 2024 for $uicideboy$), but I wouldn't call myself a fan of his music. Hell, I wouldn't even call myself a casual fan due to me either not knowing much about his music or thinking his music is just cool but not amazing, but Pouya is an artist I definitely respect due to the amount of dedicated fans he has. That said, I kind of enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Musically speaking, Pouya has always been in the same space as $uicideboy$. The horrorcore vibe presented on here is fitting with the vibes Pouya give off. That's especially true when you factor in the direct correlation to the album's title. Though the beats do kind of sound the same after a while, they still have that knock that makes me wanna check out the entire song every time. And for Pouya, his lyrics about depression and offing oneself can come off as a bit... how can I put this right... average? Shit, I know that's not exactly the right word, but hear me out. Hearing those kind of bars by Pouya over the Phonk-inspired production works for what they are, but sometimes the said bars aren't interesting enough for me anymore. I'm certain it might be me maturing and growing out of the phase a bit, but I'd be lying if sometimes Pouya hits close to home with these lyrics. Solid project. Still probably not sure if I'm willing to check out Pouya's discography real soon, but I like what I heard on here.
