Love & Hyperbole (Deluxe)

Alessia Cara

the take

Even though I enjoyed "Love & Hyperbole" by Alessia Cara, I wasn't really one clamoring for a deluxe of any sort. Maybe that's why when she released a deluxe with eight additional tracks, I kind of procrastinated on listening to it. Given that five of the eight songs are just alternate versions and/or remixes of songs from the standard edition, that might be the reason why. But still, these extra songs contain great material. "Easy", "Sunday", and "Clean" definitely sounds like those could've made the original album, as the vibes of the respective tracks matches those of the standard edition tracks, storytelling and production and all. As for the remixes and acoustic versions, what I like most is how each one presents itself from another lens or point of view, in a musical sense. I'm a bit biased toward Julia Michaels, so I have to put "Nighttime Thing (Remix)" up there as the best remix, while the acoustic version of "Dead Man" stays on repeat more. Though I wasn't rushing to check out this deluxe, I'm glad I eventually gave it a chance. These extra songs help add depth and more substance to an already great album.
