the take
After how Hoodrich Pablo Juan's debut mixtape "Designer Drugz" has aged somewhat poorly, I was a bit nervous to re-listen to his follow-up. Even with a few favorites from "Designer Drugz" on here, my initial skepticism remained high. I will say that after listening to this, this tape has more of an underground feel than its predecessor. Hoodrich Pablo Juan's rapping and delivery has improved quite a bit here, and while there's still room for improvement, this is the beginning of him not be outshined by other artists. The subject matter is typical of 2015 Atlanta trap, which is expected. As for the features, I'm quite amazed at how Hoodrich Pablo Juan managed to secure the ones that he did. The majority of them appear more than once throughout the entire tape to where I'm not sure if this is a solo mixtape or compilation tape. The features all did a good job at matching not only Pablo, but the complimenting production. One thing I will say about the production: each track sounds different from one another, sonically speaking. It's unfortunate the mixing doesn't do it justice, but then again, it comes back to this tape having more of that underground feel. I know ignorant 2017 me is so glad Hoodrich Pablo Juan's second project still sounds the same today as it did back then.
