Unforgettable

Nat King Cole

the take

The problem between me and jazz music is that while I like listening to the genre in certain environments, a part of me ignorantly believes it all sounds the same. Which is kind of how I feel about Nat King Cole's compilation "Unforgettable". Each song kind of blends in with one another, sounding more of the same. And yet... I still feel my nerves calm down tremendously. Nat King Cole is a great vocalist in his own right, and his inflections that can be heard in the words make the material here more hypnotizing. Not including the title track here, "Pretend" and "(I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons" are two of my favorites that I immediately fell in love with. The jazz production is a bit monotonous, yet still calming and can fit perfectly in a piece of media or something of the sort. Fuck, this album is beautiful, and especially even more so in certain situations.
