the take
Coming into this album, I was super keen what route JID would take after dropping his best album to date and one of the best album of the decade TFS. This album further solidified JID in the modern hiphop scene while proving he is one of the best but yet further development and growth . GDLU takes you on a personal journey on his home town and what’s it’s been like in the music world. Every song is unique and well crafted with multiple beat switches and elements to make it seem you are travelling through heaven and hell. This album is truly worth a listen as it’s not too long either. My favourite tracks are community, VCRs, off blue and for keeps. Every feature was well picked and matched the vibe. Additional something about this album that stood out was JIDs integration of vocal changes throughout making like its own instrument in the mix. This is evident in YouUgly and community where he sounds aggressive. Another song I loved was Gz where towards the end JID rapping pace gradually gets but faster while maintaining a crazy flow.
