the take
At first I was really put off but the incessant pervasive element of this album. It felt like millennial boom clap music with odd bits of rhythm thrown about. I feel like the album reaches its thesis really late, which bugged me a little bit. Visiting friends is when I felt like the album was trying to express what it was. I felt like visiting friends was gate way to this really nebulous and dreamy concept. They played with the Sonic space a little bit before, but after visiting friends they really went head first into using the entire stereo field. I think the vocal melodies throughout are pretty good. They really lull you into a dreamy mood. It made me appreciate the percussive elements a little bit more and made their presence more worth while because it was something to ground yourself to. I kept getting like visual feedback while listening to the album. Like a colorful pulsing or like breathing. With like smearing if that makes sense. I really liked that.
