the take
While Ski Mask the Slump God's "DROWN IN DESIGNER" has more replay value than this, it was "SLAPS FOR MY Drop Top MINIVAN" that made me a fan of his. What instantly caught my attention was the sampling of both music and cartoons from my childhood. That's what made Ski stand out from the rest of his SoundCloud peers at the time. Sure, the use of Vanessa Carlton's "A Thousand Miles" was butchered as heard on Ski's "(INTRO) I DON'T CARE" (which made it a very unlistenable intro and almost made me turn the project off), but it's only up from that point on. Aside from the intro, the worst song is actually "DID YOU REALLY???". It's not a bad track by any means; it may be a bit bland on the rapping side of things and the instrumental isn't as memorable, but it still passes for a decent track. The obvious two highlights are "LIKE A SOCCER MOM" and ESPECIALLY "DEATH IS LONG", which are like polar opposites of each other. The former sees Ski just embracing his confidence with his fun rapid-fire flow, while the latter somewhat sees Ski become introspective at times. While this EP is only four songs and the intro is the sole reason for my score being dragged down, the actual three tracks are lowkey SoundCloud classics and those I'm always gonna enjoy listening to. Really for the nostalgia these days, if nothing else.
