the take
Admittedly, I've been on an indie music kick as of late. Today's choice: Mae Martin's "I'm a TV". If I can be a bit honest, this album is good, yet forgettable at times. It's a shame because I definitely get the feeling that Mae Martin was pouring their heart out on every song to the point where the songs on here are legitimately heartfelt. "Big Bear" and "Quiet Street" are the ones that stuck out to me a bit more than others, but that's where the problem lies for me. While "I'm a TV" does come off as cohesive, it also suffers from each track sounding the same after a while, with small hints of experimentation outside the box at times but nothing too abstract. If anything, Mae Martin played it safe for their debut. As a whole, it's a good project, but probably not one I'd come back to pretty often. I'd definitely revisit for a few tracks from time to time, though.
