At Dawn

My Morning Jacket

the take

My Morning Jacket stretch their sound outward here, leaning into Americana, soul, and slow-burning psychedelia. The musicianship is the clear strength: reverb-soaked guitars drift like morning fog, the rhythm section is loose but assured, and Jim’s voice floats above it all with a ghostly warmth. It’s immersive, even when the songs blur together. It’s more about mood than precision. There are flashes of intimacy and yearning, but much of it feels impressionistic. That works for the atmosphere, though it can leave certain tracks feeling distant. At Dawn plays like a transitional record, a band discovering how to expand their sonic palette without fully tightening their identity yet. It doesn’t always hit, but when it clicks, it’s beautifully transportive. Fav Track Lowdown
