Jordi

the take

I'm not one to really give a fair shake on a social media personality's music career. Yes, I know it's unfair of me to do, but based on past experiences, I don't think you can blame me for that. Yet, I was still curious to see how a full album from Jordi can hold up. I mean, sure, I liked her debut single *checks notes* "Hate You" (there it is!), but I was afraid I wouldn't like what I hear for thirty-plus minutes. Safe to say I was surprised at how good this really is. To be fair, I will admit this album is inspired by Tate McRae's recent era, which itself is inspired by the Y2K time period. Songs like "Pretty Intentions" and "Blink Twice" are damn near perfect examples of such, even down to the production even inspired by it. Granted... those two are fucking bangers and among some of my favorites on here! Anyway, Ms. Jordi crafted an enjoyable experience with consistently above-average songwriting and amazing vocals throughout. My issue with this is that the more you go into this album, despite song songs' styles switching up from one to the next, the more it begins to kind of sound the same. It occurs mostly in the second half, but it's not a huge deal because I still enjoy the material. For Jordi's debut, this is pretty straightforward in terms of its musical direction. Yet, I still found myself enjoying every track to a degree. I don't know, Ms. Jordi. How soon can we expect a sophomore effort? 👀
