the take
Several pop stars have released albums in recent years often painting a picture of how their healing process has looked and where they are emotionally. We had “Changes” by Justin Bieber and “Eternal Sunshine” by Ariana Grande to name two. Now it’s Charlie’s turn. The overarching theme of this album differs significantly from his last album, which was very sad, resentful and almost angry. “Whatever’s Clever!” depicts a much healthier person with a very reflective perspective on their experiences. The emotions of each track are conveyed perfectly by the unique range of instruments when compared to Charlie’s usual go-tos. Several tracks make use of lush strings, acoustic guitar, brass, as well as a saxophone solo by the one and only Kenny G.
