the take
A record that feels like it’s been whispered directly into your consciousness. Björk turns inward, crafting something almost unbearably intimate. It’s erotic, but not in a performative sense, more like emotional exposure under soft light. The musicianship is astonishing. Harps, gorgeous string arrangements, music boxes, choirs, and those impossibly delicate microbeats create a sonic world that feels frozen and alive at once. Every sound is placed with surgical precision, yet nothing feels sterile, it breathes. It’s minimal, but never empty; intricate, yet not overwhelming. Vespertine is about retreat. It rejects spectacle in favour of interiority, turning stillness into something cinematic. It’s not just an album, it’s a sanctuary. When I imagine the voice of angels, it’s hers. Also, along with Hunter, Venus As a Boy and Army of Me, Unison is one of Björk’s best songs. Fav Track Unison
