Westside Gunn

the take

What can I really say about a Westside Gunn EP that stays true to form and delivers what its supposed to? "11" is a brief EP, clocking in at just over 16 minutes long. Believe it or not, that's more than enough time for Westside Gunn to speak what's on his mind and be out. In typical Westside Gunn fashion, the production on here (curated by him, obviously) is a perfect fit for the grimy/luxorious life that Gunn displays. Aside from the first track, one I consider as an intro, this whole EP is fire. Jesus Christ, on first listen, it's almost like each succeeding track is better than the last. At the start, I was messing with "BIG DUMP BALLAD" heavy... but then I reached the last song and "PAULIN PAULIN PAULIN" sonically made me reminisce of the "Flygod Is an Awesome God"-era production. I listened to "Still Praying" first before "11", and I believe the former was amazing. Apparently "11" was an appetizer for "Still Praying"! Shoot, if Westside Gunn would've put these tracks on "Still Praying", they would've made that project immaculate. That's how amazing this short EP is.
