Late to My Own Funeral

Nicholas Craven

the take

Boldy James has released a lot of music in 2025 alone. So far, I've only listened to two projects: one was terrible and one that was up to typical Boldy James expectations. Seeing this album was produced by Nicholas Craven restored my faith a bit because when it comes to their track record, they're two for two so far. Nicholas Craven's production is just as impressive as usual, with those soulful sample loops that sound exquisite and lavish. That fits Boldy James really well, which leads to success for the duo. Unlike his project earlier this year with RichGains, Boldy sounds the most locked in he's been all year long and the songs on here prove it. Boldy's flow, rhymes, and delivery are all top-notch exceptional for the production on here, as it shows he's the most comfortable he's been in quite a while. The album kind of starts slow at the beginning, but picks up around the halfway point and doesn't look back. "Nice Try Wrong Guy" is the best song on here for me, as it's the one that reminded me of this project dropping sometime after hearing the aforementioned song. Other bangers I keep on repeat on here more often than others are "Cordon Bleu" and "Genie in a Bottle". It's sad that this album is already one of the most overlooked from this year, considering it's one of the most consistent bodies of work released. Make that three for three for Boldy James and Nicholas Craven.
