Madison Beer

the take

If you told me a year ago I'd be listening intently to a Madison beer album.... well I would be aghast But guyssss it's giving OG Ariana grande. And yes, points deducted for unoriginality, HOWEVER it feels damn good to drift away into a white girls R&B vocals seeing about emotions and situations she perhaps has no business having!!! However, once I give it more than 15 seconds- we are deep in her second track, yes baby, and okurrr we have entered a different universe!! I could absolutely dance my little booty off to this song after 5 glasses of Prosecco in a tiny Brooklyn bar. I'm rethinking my initial reaction- maybe this album will be the 2000s unserious pop glory we have been so missing!!! Leroy clampitt is all over this album, which comes to no surprise, one of her OG collaborators. Leroy has worked with a variety of pop artists, from Bieber to FINNEAS Ashe- and his willingness to take risks serves Madison well as they throw a plethora of sounds at the wall. the finneas/billie eilish influence is obvious in for the night, again, not necessarily original, but executed so well I'm nearly sold! It's sexy and innocent and low, if I didn't know better and I wasn't listening that closely, I might just think Billie was in my ear. And now that I've discovered the Bieber connection, there is something so Justin about bad enough... nearly a discarded Swag track... am I mad about it? No! In fact, I want more discarded tracks by a list pop stars!! Ugh this song really gets me, the production is just so spectacular, and that bridge!!! So late 90s, bringing us into a brand new place but all for a purpose!! It's giving love making sexy R&B that we don't get nearly enough of in these times.
