Tay-K

the take

A part of me feels that Tay-K deserves what he deserves because of what he did. Bad home life and all (and committing crimes in Texas, nonetheless), I kind of don't want to see Tay-K free. It should also be noted that releasing the music video to "The Race" after you get arrested is crazy marketing at best and should be frowned upon. So why do I still find the aforementioned song and his "#SantanaWorld" project bangers? For someone who's actually about that life, Tay-K made some incredible music in his short career. You can tell that Tay-K was influenced by other rappers like Chief Keef and the whole Chicago drill sound, as the majority of tracks here model the Chicago drill (albeit with Tay-K's own input), but he still ends up staying authentic to himself when spitting, for better or worse. The production on here is pretty underground, but still sets up a somewhat fun musical backdrop for the dangerous activities Tay-K mention. For a short project, there really isn't much else to say. I would say "Free Tay-K", but I've always thought he was guilty since the day he got arrested. At least he gave us a project that left its mark on the hip-hop scene.
