the take
Around the time this project dropped, I didn't really care much for Hit-Boy as a producer. Plus it doesn't even help that I was slowly drifting away from SOB X RBE around the same time as ell. But shit, how come no one told me this was actually amazing? Hit-Boy's hand on production on this does the opposite what Marshmello did: it took the group fully back to the sound that blew them up circa the "GANGIN" era and made it a bit more... grimy, if you say. The 808s sound the most distorted than I've ever heard on a SOB X RBE project, but that might also because it's also a bit more to the forefront than usual. It adds more authenticity to SOB X RBE's vocal performances, not to mention it makes for a very consistent listen from front to back. While not bad by any means, "Chosen 1" may be the weakest track on here, but that's only because the rest are just leagues ahead. "Scoring" is my top favorite on here, while I've been having "Both Sides" on repeat for the last day or two. I hate how I slept on this. This might be the group's most consistent project they've ever released, as well as one that they all sounded comfortable consistently.
