the take
I only heard this mixtape ONCE, and that was within the first month this dropped back in 2018. Since then, I've became a fan of wifisfuneral mainly due to "Black Heart Revenge" and "Boy Who Cried Wolf", as I was nervous to give this a re-listen due to the features listed on here. wifisfuneral does what he does best in providing moody dark lyricism and wordplay. However, there are times that he attempts the melodic flow that's more prominently heard on "PAIN?", which is a mixed bag for me. I don't mind wifisfuneral exploring new sounds, as that's what an artist is supposed to do, but I still can't bring myself to fully invest myself in it just yet. Production-wise, though, it's about what you'd expect from a tape during the SoundCloud era. It's not really pushing the sound forward too much, but it does stay within its confinement without straying away from its musical purpose. My top two tracks on here are due to me being biased toward wifisfuneral and Cris Dinero's collaborations ("Loading Withdrawals", "Connection"), but the rest actually holds up well. What irritat- okay, not "irritate", but moreso like "disappoint". What disappointed me was the features on here. I find it kind of sad how YBN Nahmir had the best feature verse on here (he and wifi actually worked well on "Juveniles", shout out to the "Back That Azz Up" inspiration). UnoTheActivist didn't add much to his feature; KEY! had the most annoying hook on the tape and his appearance was boring; Jay Critch was cool but forgettable at the same time; and Lil Skies almost singlehandely ruined "LilSkiesFuneral" (the beat and wifisfuneral is so damn good that it's a miracle the track is still in the "Good" tier). I honestly kind of expected this to be worse than I thought. Not the best wifisfuneral project I've checked out, but there are some lowkey bangers on here.
