the take
Because I had never heard of Maddie Jay before recently after choosing which album to listen to via Genius' Release Calendar for 2025, I neither knew what to expect nor had any expectations going into her album, "I Can Change Your Mind". Indirectly, though... the album's title might be a subtle message directed at me, though. It's a good thing that this is an amazing body of work, though. From "Name Your Price" on, I instantly caught the vibe Maddie Jay was going for and enjoyed the ride for the whole thing. Maddie's presence on here gives off a sort of ethereal feeling with her vocals due to her showcasing her vulnerability with her feelings... with lyrics that are a bit more relatable to me at this point. There's not really one huge standout track on here, as the production on here somewhat comes off as a bit monotonous (not in a bad way, though), but "11th Avenue" and "Name Your Price" are two songs that clicked with me instantly. What a cohesive indie-pop body of work. So glad I got the opportunity to listen to it.
