the take
Alice In Chains is my favorite of the grunge explosion of the early 90s and Dirt is arguably their best album. It starts off defiant and ends painfully. Jerry Cantrell’s playing is amazing with an almost oppressive and overbearing tone. Layne Staley had some of the greatest vocals I’ve heard of any rock frontman and it’s a shame these lyrics came true for the way his life played out. It’s a nihilistic look into the reality of addiction. At times it’s painful to listen to because of the lyrics and what happened to Staley, but it’s a must listen for any fan of grunge/90s rock in general. This is one my no skip albums.
