the take
Even though I listened to this album a lot when I was younger and didn't even understand any of the things that were discussed, I still enjoyed the vibe of it. Fast forward to today and not only do I think this album has aged like fine wine, but this can be considered one of the most underrated East Coast rap albums from '96. Real hip-hop heads can make the assumption that Foxy Brown's debut could be considered a spinoff of Nas' "It Was Written" or a prequel to the '97 Firm album, in terms of both how cinematic each album sounds and how the rapping performances were. Unlike another certain female rapper from the same major market who usually raps about sex, Foxy Brown is at the least versatile in terms of subject matter. Foxy's raps aren't all too mindblowing, but she still gets the job done by flowing over each track with ease, creating a consistent body of work when it's all said and done.
