the take
Spiritual Machines is a fascinating, if slightly uneven, concept record that leans heavily on ideas about technology, consciousness, and the future of humanity. Lyrically, they aim high but the writing can feel a bit on-the-nose at times, trading subtlety for directness. Musically, though, the band is locked in. Raine’s distinctive, nasal delivery carries a lot of emotional weight, while the guitars balance atmosphere and crunch effectively. The production leans into a futuristic sheen without losing the band’s alt-rock edge, and there are moments where everything clicks into something genuinely evocative. As a concept album, it’s ambitious and cohesive enough to stand out, even if it doesn’t fully realize its philosophical depth. Still, it’s a bold swing. Fav Track Are You Sad
