the take
It’s been a long time coming. I know I’m late to the party but I’m glad I showed up. This album paved the way for future psychedelic/experimental rock artists. It feels timeless. I love how each song transitions into the last and the last song transitions into the first. It feels like an inescapable prison of sonic pleasure. I see how tame impact, king gizzard, and khruangbin took inspo from this album. Standouts are Breathe (in the air), great gig in the sky, time, us and them, eclipse. Best moment is the end of eclipse when the artist concedes that the entire moon is dark, and there really is no one dark side of the moon. It ends on a bleak and hopeless note. My complaint is that there are too many transition/filler tracks, and for some of the really good songs like time, the setup is annoying and not desirable to listen to.
