the take
Lyrically, it’s disarmingly simple, often circling around longing, comfort, and intimacy without much ornamentation. There’s a warmth to lines like those on Don’t Know Why and Turn Me On that feels conversational rather than poetic. It’s music that doesn’t demand interpretation, rather it invites you to sink into it. The musicianship is where the album really shines. The blend of jazz, folk, and country is handled with remarkable subtlety. Norah anchors everything with her soft, smoky voice and understated piano work, while the band provides a delicate backdrop. The album functions like a dimly lit room you return to. That consistency is both its strength and its limitation; it rarely pushes beyond its established mood, which can make parts of it blur together. Still, what it does, it does beautifully. An elegant debut that prioritizes feeling over flash. Fav Track Come Away with Me
