the take
Bruno loves himself a brass instrument. This album, although short, delivers on everything Bruno is good at. He can glide over a sexy 70s funk beat with ease, and can masterfully belt notes most men could only dream of hitting. This album is safe, which I like. I know many people are critiquing that and calling it boring, but it’s exactly what people come to Bruno for. If that’s not your niche, then get out. He’s unapologetic about his sound and he’s perfect in his execution. There were moments of a little Latin flare on songs like “Cha Cha Cha” and “Something Serious.” And in those fleeting moments Bruno elevates to a sound I think he sits comfortably in. Also “Nothing Left” started with a Chris Stapleton-esque guitar and then the raw vocals just carried the track to new heights. The back half was much more stellar to me, but the whole experience was fairly enjoyable. Best tracks: Risk It All, I Just Might, On My Soul, Something Serious, and Nothing Left
