Do It ('Til You're Satisfied)

B.T. Express

the take

As soon as I hit play on the opening track "Express", I can see why this album contains tracks that are among the most sampled ever in hip-hop history. B.T. Express' album, "Do It ('Til You're Satisfied)" is similar to P-funk in a sense but also different from the subgenre. While P-funk acts like Parliament and Funkadelic focused on both lyrics and the funky musical backdrop, B.T. Express' goal was to put less focus on words and more emphasis on the music. Doing so encourages the listener to get up and dance to feel the groove invade their soul. At first, I was kind of shocked and a bit disappointed at how there weren't enough vocals for me, but it took me a while to understand I was looking into this the wrong way. With a new perspective, I actually found myself enjoying this more on my second listen. The very few lyrics on here are laced with sexual innuendos, some more obvious than others, which I'm not totally against. As I said before, the main focus is the music, and I can't help but have that feel-good-groove spread throughout my soul, especially when the title track comes around. This is one of those albums that's forever important to the beginning of hip-hop and without this album, who knows how far hip-hop would be today. An essential listen to experience the foundation, as well as to spread nothing but good vibes.
