the take
Me ten years ago would be considered a Tyga fan to some extent. He had a couple good mixtapes, maybe one decent album, and a handful of fire singles. He's had quite a few of the latter in recent years, which led me to believe he has at least a few of said fire singles that's banging on "NSFW". But shiiiiiit, I haven't been this disappointed in a long ass time. A lot of tracks on here are just downright terrible. It's not that I don't like that horny ratchet music, as Tyga was the first one whose music made me get hype to it back in the day ("Rack City", "Make It Nasty"). While the album's production is in the present day (but still overall repetitive), Tyga's overall execution on these tracks sound like it's still stuck in 2012. One of the few good things I liked about "NSFW" is how Tyga somewhat tried to experiment with doing something new... but then reverts back to his usual bullshit soon as he starts spitting. "GFU" was fire on first listen, but going back to it now made me realize that it's more annoying than initially thought. Still the best track on here, though. There are some decent tracks on here, though, like "Dumb" and "Magnetic", while "Slave" had wasted potential when using a sample of my favorite Britney Spears song. Tyga's "NSFW" definitely lives up to its name, not just lyrically, but also sonically because even with some few bright spots, the trash overpowers everything else at the end of the day.
