Badd Boyz Of The Industry

B.B.O.T.I. (Badd Boyz Of The Industry)

the take

If it wasn't for me discovering B.G.O.T.I. (Bad Girlz of the Industry), I would've never come across B.B.O.T.I. (Badd Boyz of the Industry). That said, I didn't really have high hopes going into this one, mainly because artists had to show and prove with a name like B.B.O.T.I. how much of their name they live up to. Off the rip on the self-titled track, I couldn't help but cringe a bit when I heard the group members incorporate that aggressive rapping that everyone and their mother was doing around the time this album was released. Shit, it's fitting and it's not terrible by any means, as it reflects the amount of lyrical skill they have. By the halfway point of the album, I stopped cringing at the rap performances and I actually began to appreciate and enjoy them for what I've heard. Rap isn't their main focus, as they're more toward the R&B ecosystem with an "edge", to say the least. As vocalists, while they aren't perfect all the time, there's no denying that they showcase a unified front when everything falls in place. "Where Will You Go" is probably the best case of this for me. By the album's end, I couldn't help but see B.B.O.T.I. as descendants of both Jodeci and DRS a bit. (If you know both groups' catalogues, you know exactly what I mean.) I found myself to be a bit unfocused throughout, but it's still a decent project overall. I probably won't revisit this one on my own will anytime soon, but if any song from here comes up while I'm playing my music on shuffle, I'm content with letting said song play.
