Adjust To The Game

Larry June

the take

The cover alone pretty much told me from the jump this is one of those albums you can just press play and cruise down the street to. In a way, I'm indirectly checking out Larry June's discography, although in a random order due to a random song I hear by him via an Instagram reel or something. "Watering My Plants" instantly got me into a chokehold due to its sampling of Roy Ayer's Ubiquity's "Everybody Loves the Sunshine". Its sample usage is simple yet effective to want me to check out the song's accompanying album, which led me to "Adjust to the Game". Holy fuck, this is a smooth album. Larry June does the same shit that Larry June does: rapping about the life of pimping and how to be smart in making investments. Pretty straightforward, but if it ain't broke, it don't need fixing; and Larry June sticks to what works with him. Add the laid-back West Coast production to the mix and you have a typical Larry June album whose recipe is guaranteed a success anyway. Aside from "Watering My Plants", "Summer Snow" with G Perico is also on repeat for me (apparently it's one of the most hated songs on here, which is crazy). Really, the album is consistent from top to bottom. "Adjust to the Game" is one of those ones you just put on and enjoy a little over 25 minutes of good vibes.
