Murder During Drug Traffic

Boldy James

the take

Daaaaamn, Boldy James. How you start off 2025 with some mid? I was scared to give this a listen after seeing the reviews of this Boldy James project back in January because I didn't want to be disappointed. It's kind of understandable, right? Truthfully, though... it's not as bad as people say it is? Okay, hear me out. "Murder During Drug Traffic" doesn't suffer due to Boldy himself. If anything, he's still rapping his ass off on every track, all the while trying to match the vibe with the production, which is handled by RichGains. RichGains' production, by the way, isn't exactly mindblowing to me. To me, this is a worse version of the last album Boldy & RichGains worked together on ("Indiana Jones"). The beats doesn't match either Boldy's flow or lyricism all too much, which is rather unfortunate because the potential for this to be good-ish was wasted. Plus, it doesn't help that the majority of features on here either don't add much to their respective appearances or bore me to death. (In some cases, it's both.) There are some decent tracks on here, though: notably "Achilles", "Screenshot", and "Mixed Drinks". It just sucks that this was his first slip up after dropping amazing bodies of work. Hopefully this doesn't start a downward trend of this magnitude.
