All This Love

DeBarge

the take

Mind you, I know of the DeBarge family since forever, but I couldn't tell you any song by them off the head until recently. I just know a song when I hear it. So when I was recommended the album "All This Love" by DeBarge, a part of me has a feeling that I might have heard at least one song before, albeit in sampled form. I went into this thinking this would at least be decent. If you would've told me upfront that this entire album would have that pop soul appeal to it, I'd have checked this out much sooner. At only eight tracks, "All This Love" contains nothing but solid tracks on here and no filler whatsoever. Sonically, the production on here is groovy the entire time that you can't help but to bob your head. The four brothers' vocals are amazing in their own right (and rightfully so), but Bunny DeBarge becomes the clear star of the show around the halfway point and it's hard to ignore how each member contributed to elevate this to a Black household classic. Some of my favorite album cuts include "I'll Never Fall in Love Again" and "I'm in Love with You", but nothing can top the two biggest songs on the album (and really two Black music classics, despite me not knowing their respective names, tbh), "I Like It" and "All This Love". Nothing else has to be said about those two; if you know, you know. Overall, this is really a smooth, funky album that didn't fail to cease my amusement and interest at all while listening. It's like I was indulging in a musical history lesson... but I'm still here for it, though.
