the take
I wasn't really all into the electropop sound until late last year. While I never hated it, I didn't know where to start if I were to listen to it because from my point of view, it wasn't really accessible for me. In the time between then and now, my appreciation for the subgenre has increased immensely, thanks to mostly Charli xcx's "BRAT" and Rebecca Black's "SALVATION" albums. Rose Grey delivered an album that not only is inspired by the projects mentioned above but expands on the sound via her own terms. At only around a little over 41 minutes, "Louder, Please" is a fun album that gives off summer club vibes, though it was initially released in January 2025. When you also add in Rose Gray's great singing vocals and the majority of the songwriting being just as good, the production on here is overall good, with its peaks being infectious and makes one want to dance the night away. "Switch", "Wet & Wild", and "Party People" are my personal highlights on here that reflect that sentiment. And while there are lows, the lows aren't that drastic to drag the project down too much. Really, the spoken portions of both "Hackney Wick" and the outro title track doesn't really mesh well with the sound Rose was given, but it's not all too terrible. Taking it song by song, "Louder, Please" is good; a great addition to the mainstream electropop space. However, this album hits more when you play this Rose Gray album from top to bottom. I'm excited to see where she goes from here, as well as me being kind of curious on how her previous music sounds.
