the take
An undeniable talent finally let loose. I think Ruel has one of the most amazing voices in the music scene right now, this album puts that on display while still feeling fun. In the past heavy undertones of melancholy and sorrow loomed heavy which made them accessible only when I was feeling bummed. This album changed all of that. The singles were fun and freeing, and it feels like Ruel's personality has finally started to shine through. This album is guitar heavy and it rips. The layering of vocals is done sparingly, but mastered when done so. I think this is his best project to date and one of my favorite projects of the year so far. Best songs: Only Ever, Not What's Going On, The Suburbs, No News is Good News, and Kicking My Feet
