the take
With how so much time has passed between his breakout hit "soak city (do it)" and now (while releasing a couple of projects in between), I kind of had a feeling that 310's latest offering would disappoint me. It's not that I think 310babii is terrible now. Honestly, he's still a great entertainer. The problem with this project may lie within how uninteresting "webkam" is, mostly due to my new ever-evolving approach and appreciation for music. In other words, I feel that maturity might have caused me not to leave this work impressed. Almost every song had the potential to be amazing or even better, but the results on here fell short of my expectations. "cash flow" and "watchu want" are two songs that stuck out to me almost instantly, as the production on both were infectious to listen to and the song kept getting better... until it reached their respective peaks. What sucks is how the rest of the tracks can't even compare, with many being just okay, but nothing too special. It sucks because 310babii possibly could have improved the middle-of-the-world songs with his simplistic yet catchy flow; instead, no impact was made. I think I've accepted the fact I'll never get another "soak city", and while I'll always check out 310babii's music regardless of which direction he decides to go with, I have to call a spade a spade. "webkam" wasn't it for me. A few good songs, but most just "aight" and pretty much forgettable.
