the take
I remember coming across this EP by complete accident while discovering new and upcoming R&B music on Spotify via "Better" (I think... or maybe it was "Obvious"). Back in 2018, I was trying to expand my music taste that was vastly different from the then-preferred DMV rap scene I was heavily into. Re-listening to this EP in 2025, it's more clear than before that this project is a breath of fresh air. Shaqdi provided a smooth, sensual vibe with her beautiful vocals that compliment the incredible backing production. The said production gives off the old-school Neo-Soul vibe of the 90's with an updated (well, circa 2018) reimagining of it. It's a shame how Shaqdi didn't get much more recognition as time went on, because seeing as this is her introduction, it was strong enough for her to get some publicity. Either way, this is a beautiful project that deserves more attention.
