Resurrection

Common

the take

I've never been all into Common's music, but I've always respected him as a rapper who knows how to make good music. I mean, he DID make one of the most timeless rap songs of all time, "I Used to Love H.E.R.". It's kind of crazy how I just recently listened to this album that contained the classic banger. The production alone instantly put me in a chokehold, as the boom bap sound goes well with Common's incredible flow and impressive lyricism that comes off as insightful to me. Throughout this album, Common comes off as a bit braggadocious naturally, but in a way that makes him conscious of the world as he sees it as well. It's like the best of both worlds. The worst song on here is "Nuthin' to Do", but it's still a good song at the end of the day. There's just so many great tracks on here it's hard to pick a favorite that's not named "I Used to Love H.E.R.". For me, "Book of Life" and "Orange Pineapple Juice" are two songs that doesn't get talked about much but should. I can kind of do without the interludes, though, but they work in the grand scheme of things when listening from top to bottom, so it's whatever to me. Timeless, yet a bit unappreciated. What a crazy combination Common's "Resurrection" is.
