Justice

the take

First listen, no lyrics (🥲) : Genesis (8/10) is a strong intro, it throws you straight into the album with a bold prod — honestly I can imagine Daft Punk jumping on it. Let There Be Night (9/10) flows so smoothly after that I barely noticed the new track starting… suddenly I’m in a rave and I’m not mad about it. D.A.N.C.E (10/10) is obviously a banger. I knew it before and it’s literally one of the songs that introduced me to Justice. Super accessible electro with happy 80s groove energy. Newjack (7.5/10) feels like a cybercafé glitch dimension — the bug effects are cool but I NEED a good headset to fully appreciate it. Phantom (8/10) has a crazy unplugged-then-replugged transition. The shift from 80s vibe to futuristic sound is interesting, even if the prod is a bit repetitive at first. The glitchy parts reminded me of Let It Happen by Tame Impala. Then Phantom Pt. II (∞/10)… WHAT?? Immediate chaos in the best way. Huge vibes like Dawn FM era The Weeknd or even Thriller energy. Valentine (7/10) feels like a weird October video-game quest in a liminal space, cute synths but the breathing at the end is lowkey creepy. The Party (5/10) had potential — fun “girls night out” lyrics — but the beat drop takes forever so the hype kinda dies. DVNO (9.5/10) sounds like a movie soundtrack: catchy voice, strong bass, and the clap moment is chef’s kiss. Stress (5/10) is… terrifying. Sleep-paralysis soundtrack with sirens. Not a midnight-in-the-dark type of song. The rave-like second half saves it though. Waters of Nazareth (10/10) is insanely futuristic for 2007 — epic, almost war-in-3074 energy. Finally One Minute to Midnight (10/10) wraps the album perfectly: softer synths, still dancey, and the scratched-vinyl ending is such a smart touch. Bref merci Justice pour les travaux 🇫🇷✝️
