the take
While I respect Future for putting in a lot of work in the 14-plus years in the music industry, I never was really one dive deep into his music. I know a few songs here and there by him that I enjoyed, one of them being "March Madness". And while I only played this mixtape once (in the year that it came out), I'm glad I gave it a re-listen. Because holy shit, I forgot how good it was. Future and Southside work really well together and crafted some catchy songs that stay on repeat. The production doesn't do too much, as it stays as minimalistic as possible, but still works to Future's advantage. It may come off as repetitious due to the drum patterns used, but I don't mind it too much because Future went in on each song with ease. Plus, at only ten tracks, there's really no filler on here (unless you count the skits, but even I think they're worthy of listening to if you're listening to the original version hosted by DJ Esco). Damn, I kind of want to revisit "Monster" and "Beast Mode" now.
